"E Komo
Mai!"
is a Hawaiian greeting that
conveys both "come on in" and "welcome."
The pineapple has become a universal symbol of hospitality. In
colonial days, it was the most prized tropical fruit brought
back by seafaring captains to the American colonies, when they
traveled to the West Indies.
In New England, it is said, a returning captain would spear a
pineapple to his front gate to announce his return. Friends and
neighbors would often be asked over to share a pineapple; this
was seen as a fine welcome indeed.
E Komo Mai features a 15-piece pineapple clear bevel
cluster, as well as numerous other bevels, surrounded in rich
complementary colored glass, both textured and iridescent.
