Victorian-Era Mexico?
That's right. European art and culture had a profound influence
on Mexico during the Imperial Period, culminating with the short
and tragic reign
of Emperor Maximilian.
In 1868, Claudio
Pelladini brought European stained glass craftsmanship and
Victorian period design across the Atlantic, opening the famous
Casa Pelladini glassworks, makers of many original leaded
windows for cathedrals and important buildings.
This large panel captures the charm of a lost era, with simple
color and the sparkle of 35 faceted glass bevels.
Please
Note:
In contrast to our usual offerings, this panel was
tailor-made for an older window frame in a home, where it
was installed for a number of years. Since the frame area
was slightly irregular, the panel's design, especially in
the outer frame area, is subtly irregular to suit, with
variations of up to ¼", as can be seen by close
examination of the enlargement picture. This tailor-made
effect is actually not uncommon even in original
Victorian-era work, and tends to lend a "personal
touch" to the artwork. Please also note that the
black area in the photograph is not part of the stained
glass panel; it is a silhouette background.
